EARLE HERMANN TRIAL. ' Sydney, Ma roll IS. The trial of Earle Hermann on three counts of forging and uttering promissory notes involving £17,391 has commenced. The Crown produced evidence that defendant had conducted company formation and managing investments. In April, 1914, Hermann discounted three promissory notes with Hermann Wallraff, manager of Renter's banking department, purporting to liave been sent and signed by a certain Triggs. a well-known grazer. Counsel stated that Triggs would swear that the documents did not represent transactions with him, and that the signatures were forgeries. Counsel for the defence argued that defendant had no knowledge of the promissory notes. He admitted that if lie had, then he must he guilty. He had knowledge that defendant had been • suffering from a violent type of epilepsy.
