THE "STATE" BREAD SCHEME.

Mr D. R. Hall (N.S.AV. AttorneyGeneral) stated that the bread scheme was his ambition since childhood,' and his political faith would be in vain if it worked unsuccessfully, arid he would admit himself "down and out." Considerate treatment would be given to'all riten who were displaced. Those having to get out would do so under better conditions than had been given by private enterprise in the past. The estimated cost of buying the business in the metropolitan urea was] iinder half- a million. Once this was secured they could, out of the profits extend the scheme to the larger cities and towns outside the metropolis.

COAL MINING UNIONS AMALGA-

The Australasian Coal and Shale Employees Association representing an amalgamation of coal-mining unions throughout the Eastern States has been 4 launched. Later, it Is proposed to extend activities to Westralia and New Zealand. The whole of the south coast mines were idle to-day to enable the men. to discuss the arrest of a number of wheelers for the non-pay-ment of fines.

There^are other grievances, and the position is regarded as critical.

A DESTRUCTIVE FIRE. (Received 10.15 a.m.) Sydney, March 15. ■ ''-A fire at Parkes destroyed a block of twelve shops. The damage is estimated at £IO,OOO.

FATAL RESULT OF COLISION BE- - TWEEN MOTOR BUS AND TRAMCAR. (Received 10.15 a.m.) Adelaide, March 15.

A motor bus and electric tramcar collided and caught fire, and were destroyed. The passengers panicked, and a boy was fatally burned, and a girl injured.
