ENEMY'S LOSSES" TOTAL, 10,000 IN THREE DAYS.

The Press Bureau and War Office state that the enemy's heavy counterattack on Saturday afternoon was repulsed. Observations on the battlefield and the statements of- 1500 prisoners show that the German losses cannot be far short of 10,000 in three days. •

The High Commissioner reports under date London, February 13 (1.20 p.m.). The British "Eye-witness" gives a glowing account of the victory ai. Xeuve Chapelle. The battle was begun on Wednesday morning, and was preceded by a terrific bombardment of massed guns against. £he enemy. Jn less than half an hour all the enemy trenches were filled with dead and dying, and the trenches were captured by noon, the enGmy being driven out of the village in the afternoon. We ' made further big. gains eastward, fighting being continued until night. The enemy was thoroughly shaken and 750 captured during the day. Two remarkable aeroplane feats were performed, one aviator, at a height of only 150 feet, dropped a bomb on the Menin bridge and destroyed a pier. Another destroyed the Courtrai Junction station. Both are of vital importance to Germans, Ou Thufsday . the enemy counter attacked, but were repulsed by artillery. British troops paying off old scores had the enemy on the run. It is the- greatest amount of ground gained since the commencement of trench warfare.
