TARANAKJ WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW. SALES.

MR NEWTON KING'S REPORT.

At: the sale of above produce held on Tuesday, March 9th, I. catalogued 153 bales and 255 sacks, of wool, 2250 sheepskins, 10 casks and 57 tins tallow,. 498 hides and 237 calfskins. - The attendance of buyers was large and bidding was particularly spirited on wool and sheepskins. Many of the lots of wool were badly affected with seed, and prices for these showed little or no improvement, but all clean parcels advanced Id to l£d per lb. The top price obtained was for. 3 bales of Romney fleece on account 1 of Mr Clem Cpldwell, which realised 13 J d per lb; 2 bales of fleece frflm Mr W. A. A-*3ii brought 12jjd and his lambs 12£d. I quote:—

Wool.—Romney 13-Jd, bright crossbred to 12fd, coarse lid to lljd, dingy lOd to seedy 9|d to lljd, lambs superior Is to 12|d, short and stained 9Jd to slightly seedy 8-Jd to lOjd, bad seedy 6d to B£d, crutchings 7=}d to Bd, dead 9£d, pieces 7d. In sacks.—Best fleece lljd to l2|cT; stained IOJd, .seedy lambs Hid to Hid, seedy 6|d to Bid, dead Gfcl to 9§d, crutchings 7£d to Bd, pieces 6|d, locks 5d to 6id.

Sheepskins.—Again advanced IJd per lb, with a very strong demand. Full woolled skiiig to, 10£d per lb, best lambs 10£d to 10jjd, farmers' rough lOd, J-woolled pelts, B£d to 9d, shorts 5d to 7d, damaged and inferior 4*d to 61d,. dead and damaged Id to 4d, dead lambs skin pieces 4£d- Damp lines.—Heavy pelts 4s 3d to Cs Id, light Is 4d to 4s Id, lamb pelts lid, fulLwoolled 6s to lis 7d. Salted lines.—Woolly 6s 9d to 7s, best pelts 4s to 4s lid, light 2s to 3s 6d, inferior Is 6d. to 2s 6d, lambs 3s to 4s Bd, damaged 6d to Is lOd.

Hides.—Market easier, declined $d to Id per lb. Cow heavy superior 9i}d to lOd, medium 9|d v light 9£d to 9jjd, ordinary heavy BJd to 9|d, medium '9.]cFto did, light 9d to 9gd, cut 7|d to Bd, ox medium B}d to 9§d, horse 5s 6d, stags. 6£d to,6£d, cut 5Jd, farmers' cow 7fd to Bd, cut and slippy 5d to 6d, dry 6|d to Bfd, yearlings 7Jd to 9fd, cut and slippy od to 6Jd. Tallow.—Again advanced £2 per ton. Best mixed 27s 6d, medium 2os 6d t<x 26s 6d, in tins 22s to 235.

Calfskins. Few offering, poor demand. Best lines lOd to lOfd, inferior 7d to lOd, cut 3d to SJd, slippy 3jd to 4id, dry Is od.. Bones. £5 per ton.

Horsehair. —2s 4d per lb'. Cowtails.—ls 6d per dozen. Goat skins.—ls 5d each. Owing to my next sale date falling at Easter, the next sale will be postponed a week later, and will now be held on April 13th.
