DISTRESS IN HOLLAND.

A sidelight on the effect of the war on Holland is supplied by a letter received at the animal meeting of the Ancient Order of Foresters in Sydney from the North Holland District of the Order. It was stated in the communication that the war had brought such distress upon the members that it was beyond the power of the district to meet all the demands made on the funds. In the city of Amsterdam, 95 per cent, of the members were employed in the diamond trade, which was at an absolute standstill, and had been for months, and the efforts to i.s.ist those members had quite exhausted the benefit funds. Thou the .members from Con ret City of Antwerp had to leave their homes and go to Holland, bereft of everything, and Dutch brethren were sharing with them what they bad. Because of this, a call was made on all the districts and courts of the order to help in relieving the brethren who were so afflicted.
