Mr A. E. Belcher, M.A., late headmaster of Christ's College (Christchurch) who is now at Home, has been appointed to the 9th Service Battalion, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry.
The triennial conference of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants re-elected Mr W. T. Wilson, of Palmerston North, presedent for the ensuing year. Mr Charles E. Wheeler was re-appointed editor of the Railway Review, the Society journal.
The Hon. W. H. Hemes has been given the portfolios of Marine and Customs, held up to January 12 last by Mr F. M. B. Fisher, and, since the latter's resignation, by the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey).
Mr Howard Edie, manager for the Cherniavsky's, talented musicians, was in Stratford yesterday completing arrangements for these artists to appear in the local Town Hal] on Saturday evening, 20th hist.
Mr Jos. W. Boon, at the request of a large number of the burgesses of Stratford, has consented to allow himself to he nominated for the Mayoralty, and announces his candidature in this issue. It is quite on the cards that there will be several "Richmond*" in the held.
