MEAT FOR ARMY PURPOSES.
Per Press Association,
Wellington, February 27
Arrangements have been practically completed for forwarding regular shipments of meat for Imperial army purposes. The result of the conferences between the Prime Minister and representatives of the meat companies is that a schedule of prices for all grades os meat has been drawn up. The only difficulty which now seems co be presented is sufficient cool storage space aboard the vessels available for the export trade during the present month. The steamers which are on the freight list for March are the Matatua, Tainui, Karamea, Otaki, Kaikoura, Ruahine, Westmeath, and Star of Australia. The Westmeath is to go into dock for two or three days at Port Chalmers, but will be ready when she is wanted. Seven ships are booked for departure in April, and it is known that several others will be available of the Shaw, Savill Line.
