WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
At the monthly meeting of the Wbangamomona County Cuuneil on Tuesday, there wore present: —Crs. A. Meredith (chairman), W. A. McCutchan, M. Geever, E. B. Roberton, N. K. Cleland, T. 11. Mouusey, A. Coyne, and J. McClnggage.
The engineer’s report was read and adopted. Cr. Coyne moved and Cr. Cleland seconded, that the action of the chairman and Hiding members in accepting G. Wilson’s tender for the Putikituna tunnel and filling at £llO be confirmed.—Carried. On the motion of Cr. McClnggage, seconded by Cr. McCntchan, it was decided that the metalling of a further portion of Brewer Hoad be left in the hands of riding members and the engineer with power to act. CORRESPON DEN CE. The Clerk reported on his visit to Wellington to see State Advances Office re Ohura Road loan of £2500. — The clerk to he thanked for work done by him in this connection.
| J. Masters and Son wrote re supply [of concrete pipes.—Received. Lands and Survey Department wrote re Domain Street.—The Council consented to the taking of portion of the street by the Department.
Whakatane County Council wrote re rebate for prompt payment of rates.— It was resolved that the resolution submitted by the Whakatane County Council be endorsed.
Public Works Department, wrote declaring a portion of Ohura Road to be a County road.—lt was resolved that it be pointed out to the Minister lor Public Works that about four miles of this length of road is through a scenic reserve, and the Council receives no rates from same, and that the Hon. Hall-Jones promised that this length of road would not bo vested in the Council unless an adequate Government grant for annual maintenance be allowed, and that the vesting be therefore withdrawn; and that a committee, comprising of Crs. MeCluggage, MeCutchan, and the Chairman be set up to deal with the matter.
Public Works Department wrote re grant of £250 and subsidy of £SO for Rimuputa Hoad.—The Council to expend £SO subsidy and put the work in hand as soon as possible, and that if the petition from lluiniputa Road settlers asking that their thirds be scheduled for engineering expenses on road formation reach the clerk before next meting, he is to forward same on to the Land Board.
District Health Department wrote re pubjic health by-laws.—The Clerk to write to the Department for copies of the printed proposed by-laws. J, O’Connor wrote re bridge to give access.—Engineer to inspect and report on same.
A petition was received from settlers re expenditure of Marangae Block rates.—The work to be laid off by Engineer and metalling proceeded with. A petition was received from settlers re the expenditure of “thirds” and rates!on Putikituna Road-. A. Coxehad wrote re his rates and “thirds”to be spent on Putikituna Road.—lt was resolved that all the funds as above that are available be scheduled for expenditure as requested, and the work thereafter be put in hand ; and that if th Vera Road is closed the thirds and rates from Mr Coxhead’s section be expended as offered in his letter of the 16th inst., as regards section 6.
GENERAL. On the motion of Cr. McCutclian, seconded by Cr. Mouusey, it was resolved that 100 more dog-collars be procured from Mr Aagard at 7Jd each. Cr. McCutclian moved, and Cr. McCluggage seconded, that an outstanding amount for rent of reserve be written off.—Carried.
Cr. McCluggage moved, and the Chairman seconded, that the contractor be paid that day for the extra work done and metal supplied above bis main road contract.—Carried.
On the motion of Cr. Geever, and seconded by Cr. McCutclian, it was resolved that the engineer inspect and report upon the condition of Bray’s bridge, and also possible sites and cost of two bridges to Messrs McGuin and Cannock, at the end of Whangamomona Road.
Moved by Cr. McCutclian, seconded by Cr. Geever, that the Public Works Department lie informed that the Council cannot expend the Okara Road grant, as there is no administrative allowance, and that they be requested to proceed with the work as quickly as possible.—Carried. Cr. Coyne moved, and Cr. Cleland seconded, that the clerk’s expenses to - Wellington to interview State Advances Office be assessed at £lo. Carried.
Accounts totalling £4Ol 5s 4d were passed for payment.
