Also started: Rothschild Excelsior, Winnipeg, Lodestar. Time, 2min 34sec. Rothschild Excelsior and Lodestar finished first and second respectively, but were disqualified as the result of a protest. Winnipeg fell and seriously injured the driver, J. Maident, who was removed to the hospital in an unconscious state, having broken ribs and concussion of the brain.

At the May meeting of the Wa’lgn.nni Jockey Club Mr James Bull, jmi, won the Buena Hack Handicap with Master Lupin. Some time afterwards the owner of the second horse (Square Deal) entered a protest on the grounds that Master Lupin, having won a lady’s bracelet valued ft £ls, was ineligible to start as a hack, but the protest was disallowed, owing to the lapse of time. Mr Bull, on realising that he had wrongly obtain the stakes (£9O) told his friends he would hand the money to a charitable object when he made the next good win. Master Lupin c.n Thursday won the Wanganui Cup, and Mr Bull handed the £9O to the Jockey Club to he devoted to the Belgian Relief Fund. His action was loudly applauded.
