New York, February 22.
Speaking at Morristown. New Jersey, Mr Taft warned his hearers that the United Stales' was now faced with a serious iliter national crisis, and the only danger was lest the “Jingo” spirit should be allowed to prevail.
Mr Taft denounced mine-plan-ting and the torpedoing of merchantmen as violations of the rules governing contraband and neutral commerce. If, he said, American lives were lost, the Government would then be faced with the most momentous event in its history. The United Sta-tes-must sell arms and ammunition to any nation able to purchase them, .because if the United States' had to go to war it would require a similar service from other nations.
