The Democrats have decided to allow the Opposition to talk the Ship Purchase Bill dead. President Wilson has abandoned the idea of an extra session for further consideration of the measure. *
WAR ZONE NO CONCERN OF AMERICA.

State Department officials announce that the United States will not make any further representations relative to the war zone, either to Britain or Germany, contenting itself with those already made. A State Department official takes up the attitude that charges of violations of international law have been made by both belligerents, and that the matter is of no concern to America so long as each belligerent concedes the United States’ demands as a neutral power. PRESSURE OF THE ECONOMIC STRAIN. New York, February 20. Jacob Schiff informed the Peace Society that he anticipates the war will end before the autumn, owing to the economic strain. He does not * think Germany will accept America as a mediator, because she is not sufficiently neutral.
