The eccentricities of judging were illustrated at the Masterton show on Monday (says the Wairarapa “Age”). The lady who secured first prize for home-made... bread made two, entries. were.both,pprtions off the same loaf. One was awarded the first prize, and the other third.
The petition for the taking of a poll on the question of the Saturday half-holiday is being strongly supported in Wellington, and according to the secretary of the Saturday Half-holiday Association, -IdOO signatures have been secured of the 0000 required. It is l considered (states the Times) that the number already obtained Avill be almost doubled by the time the petition has to be entered—a month before the municipal election.
A rather nususual incident occurred at t!ie Magistrate’s Court on .Wednesday afternoon (says the Argus). During the proceedings a. man walked into court and took a seat at the rear apparently to listen to the evidence. A few minutes later, however, the Magistrate called the attention of the con stable in attendance to the fact that the man was threatening some one in the court, remarking to the man that he must not shake his list at any person in court. The constable immediately ejected the offender.
