CRICKET. OTAGO v. SOUTHLAND. Per Press .Association. Invercargill, February 17. The annual inter-provincial cricket match between Southland and Otago was commenced at Rugby Park liiis afternoon in dull weather, Hid on a slow wicket. The start was -ielnyed until 3.30 owing to the rain >i t.ie early morning, which had affected tbo wicket. Three of Southland's leading batsmen, in James Hamilton, Bannortoiij and Driscoll, were unable to play. Southland won the toss, and sent Otago to the wickets. The visitors at the drawing of stumps had lost tfve wickets for 148 runs. SWIMMING. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. Napier, February 17. The swimming championships were continued this afternoon in beautiful weather, and in the presence ..f a large number of spectators. In the 110 yards championship, the first four to finish all did the distance under the standard time. During the afternoon Professor D. B. Anderson, of Auckland, gave a splendid exhibition of scientific and fancy swimming. Icesuits :

CROQUET. STRATFORD v. ELTHAM. A vary enjoyable match between the ladies of the above Clubs was played on the Etlham lawns yesterday. The Stratford ladies won by twelve points.
