HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT,

The High Commissioner, cabling on February 13, states inter alia:— [ Meat.— ln good demand for all descriptions. with prices advancing. The mutton market is'very firm. Canterbury is not quoted, as there is no supply on hand. North island quoted 5 ll.ltkl, ewes o|d. Lamb is’ in good demand for everything offering; ■ Canterbury not quoted; other than Canterbury 7-Jd. The beef market is very firm, owing to the short supply. Chilled New Zealand hind-quarters (j.pl, fores (id, chilled hinds 7Ad, fores 6i|d.

Butter. —The market is quiet and at a decline, prices being irregular. Danish 138 s to 140 s, New Zealand 134 s to 1365, unsalted 136 sto 110 s; Australian 132 s to 1345; Argentine 132 s to 134 s.

Cheese. —The market was firm until about the middle of this week, but it closed rather quiet. Canadian (quiet), white and colored 88s to 90s; New Zealand (quiet), white and colored S7s to 89s. English ,cheddar market is firm, owing to the supply running short; present quotations 94s to 965; Australian, white and colored 85s to 88s. The Tongariro has arrived, hut has not yet commenced discharging her dairy produce on account of the congested state of the dock sheds.

Hemp.—The market is firm, and prices continue to advance. Further advances may take place if the rate of freight is raised as anticipated. Good-fair on spot is quoted at £29, fair £27 10s, fair current Manila £32; for forward shipment, good-fair £2B 10s, fair £27, fair current Manila £32 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 20,000 bales. Wheat.-—The market' is quieter, buyers being more reserved. Canadian 635, American 635, any position Argentine G2s. These prices are offering for the January-to-Murch shipments.
