Prince Albert, second son of His Majesty King George, a midshipman, has rejoined H.M.S. Collingwood. The death in England of the Rev. Dr. Fordyce, a prominent Congregationalist, is reported from Sydney.
Sergeant W. R. Foley, of Puniwhakau, who passed his examination in July, has been appointed to the rank of Lieutenant in the Q.A. 2nd Mounted Rifles.
Vice-Admiral Sir John Jellicoe, in command of the North Sea Fleet, has been created a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, in recognition of his services to the nation during the present war.
Professor Davis, of Harvard University, who was one of the distinguished American scientists to visif New Zealand recently at the invitation of the Government, has returned the grant of £75 which he received towards his expenses. He has asked (states the Press Association) that I the money be used by Mr Cotton, lecturer on geology at Victoria College, to defray the expenses of his study of the mountains and coasts of New Zealand.
