WOOL, SKIN, HIDE, AND TALLOW

SALES.

W. M. BAYLY AND CO’S. REPORT

We held our usual monthly sale of above produce on Wednesday last. There was a good attendance of buyers, and competition was unusually keen and record prices were attained. Wool showed a rise of nearly 2d per lb., as also did sheep skins. Hides also advanced id and were very keenly competed for. Tallow advanced to 23s—a rise of 2s per cwt.

We quote :—Wool: Crossbred fleece in bales IG-Jd to 10id, lambs Dj}d to lid, fleece in bags 9*d to 93d, bellies and pieces 7d, locks 5Jd. Sheepskins.—Butchers’ pelts, dry, GRI to 7d, butchers’ lambs, dry, Bid to 9ld, butchers’ salted pelts, 3s; settlers’ half wools, BJd to 9jd. Hides.— Butchers’ cow, average 30, 9|d; butchers’ cow, average 44, 10d; butchers’ cow, washed, average 42, 1()3d; butchers cow, washed, average, 36, 103 d; settlers’ cow, average 33, 93 d. Calfskis.—Medium, average olbs., 10id to lid. Tallow. —Casks, medium 235; tins, medium, 225.

On Monday, Bth hist., at my Urenui yards, for my sheep fair and cattle sale, 1 had a fair entry of sheep, with a small yarding of cattle. Bidding throughout was brisk, practically all lines being cleared at the hammer at satisfactory prices, as follows: Lambs 11s 6d to 9s. culls 6s, 2 tooth ewes 14s 7d, 2 tooth wethers 15s 3d to 16s, 4 tooth wethers (small) 13s 10dj and 14s 3d, 4 and 6 tooth wethers 17a 1 lOd, 4 tooth ewes 17s Id, good 4 and 6 j tooth and, f.f.m. ewes 14s Id, f.m. ewes 10s 7d to 9s 4d, Lincoln rams 4} gns., Romney rams 3 and 3’ f gns., Bor-der-Leicester rams ,2gns., rams (aged) 15s to 19s, springing heifers £4 12s 6d to £5 12s 6d, cows and calves £s| ss, wearier heifers £1 Os 6d, 18 month, steers £3 14s. yearling steers £2 7s, j 18 and 20 month steers £3 14s, year-:

New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 10th instant:—Tallow.—We quote present spot values for the following descriptions: Fine mutton 40s Gd per cwt., good beef 38s per cwt., mixed 35s per cwt. The market is active.
