Ohura’s Needs

DECISION OF CONFERENCE The following circular letter, which is being forwarded to Messrs Okey’, Jennings, and Hine, M’s.P.,. for Tafanakij Taumarunui, and Stratford respectively from Mr W. Sandison, of Ohura; explains itself; “Dear Sir,—A largely-attended con. ference waff held at Stratford to-day between settlers representative of ihe Ohura County,,. Council and . District, and the Stratford Chamber' of Commerce and other local bodies, when Mr W. Sandison, of Ohura, occupied the chair. Resolutions were carried that representations be made through you to the Hon. Minister of Public Works' and tho Hon. Postmaster General concerning tho following mat-' tfirtf:—

“Firstly.—The urgent necessity of completing formation ’of the Ohu'-a,' Road on the Pararata Saddle. The conforfenico urged ' thlib the notice of the Hon. Minister be directed to: (1) That the Ohura' Road, is the main arterial 'read conn'ecting Taranaki with Auckland. (2) That money is .a vailable • and ‘unexpended on the estimates for the current year, and unless ' immediate ' action'is taken an'otlier' year will elapse before this urgent work Chn be completed. (3) That such work can only be effected l profitably during the summer months, which are now rapidly drawing to a close.

. “Second.—That the attention of the Hon. Postpiaster , General be drawn to the necessity of establishing telephonic communication between Tabora and Tatu. .The rapid development of the district demands ' such telephone extension, and in view of' the fact that the distance between the two places is only,eighteen miles, the con. ference was- emphatically pf opinion that'such work should‘he put in hand without delay. Will’ you kilidly convey these representations to the Hon. Ministers ?” 7 -- *, c
