Berlin advices are to the effect that the Turks have decided to abandon the invasion of Egypt, and transfer the army to Bagdad, Erzoroum, and Constantinople. Small forces may raid Egypt occasionally. London, February 12. Refugees assert that Djemal Pasha broke a leg in a motor accident at Beersheba and surrendered bis command to Von Bach. The Tribuna (Rome) states that the Turks are abandoning their plans for fresh attacks. They appear to have exhausted their provisions, water and ammunition. THE TURKS IN RETREAT.
LOSSES STATED TO BE 4000, (Received 9.40 a.m.) Sydney, February 13
Captain Bean, the official correspondent, cables that the Turks began to leave their advanced positions on Friday and are now retreating. During Wednesday’s fighting the Turkish losses wore 4000, while our was about 150, mostly wounded in the left forearm. Two New Zealanders were wounded, one of whom has since dieel.
