At the Supreme Court, Patrick Gunn (19 years old) was charged with theft and arson at Rauene. He failed to appear though on bail of (wo sureties of £ 4 250 each, provided by prisoner's brother, John Gunn, and brother-in-law, William Robert O'Brien, of Auckland. Accused vanished before the case was called on Tuesday, and a diligent sei'C-i faile.! to reveal his whereabouts. The Judge said he was satisfied the sureties had done everything reasonable ro produce accused, and under the circumstances he would not estreat recognisances and inflict such a serious loss upon them.
