THE STRASSBURG CLOCK.
Strassburg, the capital of AlsaceLorraine, which is a. crucial centre of strategy in the western area of the var, is remarkable for the grett clock >f its Cathedral (says the ‘Sunday At Homo”).
This clock, which is 20ft in n-.ight, vas made by Jean Baptiste Sch vi’gue in 1812. At the first quarto'- of in hour a child strikes the bed with i rattle; a youth in the garb of a hunter strikes it with an arrow a* the half-hour; at the third ,’.tarter a warrior strikes it with his swmd; and at the fourth quarter an o! i man strikes it with his crutch. Then a figure of Death appears and si; tins the full hour with a floshless hone. On the highest platform is a nat-ural-sized figure of Christ, and when Death strikes the hour at noon the 12 apostles pass before the loot of Hirer Master, bowing as they do so As Peter pisses, a hrg? rock porel*e I off on one side flaps his wings, ruffles his neck, an 1 gives * 1 -ee times a loud and perfect! / niiti’ral erew.
