THE COST OF LIVING.
STATE INTERFERENCE URGED. Pur Press Association. Wellington, February 10. A public meeting was held in the Town Hall to-night to discuss the increasing cost of living. The Hinting was called by the Labor Representation Committee, and the following resolutions were carried: - ’That in view of the enormous inc ease in the prices of commodities of common necessity, we affirm that an urgent need obtains for drastic act' jn to be taken by the Government in the direction of establishing a permanent an 1 independent court with power to enforce maximum prices of sale, i'so the institution of direct State control of production and distribution of s;uh staple commodities as wheat, limn, meat, and other common i.ecess’cics produced in the Dominion.” On the motion of Mr .1. Thorn, ’t was resolved “That in view (i Gy fact that the burden 'of ■ ktc ised prices falls on the workers, the Arbitration Court should review all existing awards and grant increases of wages commensurate with the mr".vised cost of living.
