There is hue weather, with a great attendance for the first day of the Taranaki Jockey Club races. The course is in good order. Results: — . Waitara ‘Hurdles, -of 125sbvs., oue and a-half . miles.—-Merry Guy 1, Styrax 2, Ascalon 3. Scratched: .Warea, Wee Paul, Nita,’! Millbauks, White Plume. Won .by half a lengthy third horse close up; Time, ’2min 47 2-sscc. ’ h.
Stewards’ Handicap, of 150spvs., five furlongs.—Simple Sam 1, Master Achillies 2, Play Off 3. Scratched; Tree Lucerne, Tyson, Flying Queen. Won by a length, a neck between second and third. Time, 62secs. Timaru Hack, of lOOsovs., six furlongs.—Combustion 1, Sylvan Dale 2, Avon Park 3. Also started: King Chiara, Bay Paul. Won by one and a half lengths, third horse a neck away. Time, Imin IGsec.
Taranaki Cup, of 500 sovs; one and a-quartor miles.—Phosphorus 1, GoldSize 2, Court Martial 3. Also started: JBmperador, Byron, Ladify. Phosphorus was running last the first time past • the stand, but led into the straight. Emperador was shut in on the rails. Won by a length, ,a neck between second and third, lime 2min; 11 sec.
