GREAT SCORES AT REWA REWA. The elewuih annual shoat ujider the auspices of the Taranaki Eiflft Association was fired: ou'.R.ewa, R.ewa range, commenced yesterday -under splendid weather conditions.. Several wellknown chainpipns'who •patronised the shoot were absent* incltiding L. Loveday, oi' Ohnra, who has volunteered for the front. Several competitors from Whanga missed the train on ac•tounfci of the -altered ,*service- for. the Ha wera.. races. The.contestants included leading New Zealand riflemen", some 67 whom have represented the Dominion aiield—such as G. Loveday and 1). Roots (ex-champions of the Dominion,, .and the; letter' also an. exchampion of Taranaki), Rifleman H. H. Gilshnan <last year's Taranaki champion), A." H. Guy, T. Marett, H. Hunt, and Mj Carey (champion at the recent Palmerestod .North meeting). As evidence of tliG good shooting it may be mentioned that' twelve possibles weropnt on for. the day's, shotting.'; Inithe-lCaponga liiatcli last'.year the first prizes wont,to 65, 65, 63, while this year 68, 68/66, topped the score. Last year three mem tied with 65 in the Inglewood match, and secured the first three prizes. This year three men did likewise, but had to be tent 'with tenth, eleventh and twelfth prizes. Hunt Roots and Palmer'(Patea) each tied'with one off the possible, and. in the count-back the first-named gajn£d tihej yqrdiet. Their performances were splendid. Each Scored possibles at. 500, yards, and their pards at 600 yards follows:— Hunt, 4,5, 5,5, 5,5, 5—34,; Roots, 5. p, 5,4, 5,5, 5—34; and Palmer, 5, h, 5,5, 4, 5—34. There were six possibles registered at the 500 yards irange and two at GOO yards, whilst ithree all-huts were put on at each |range. Last year 61 into the prize. list, as against 63 this year. 1, i The Patea match (possible 70) 'was I won by Rifleman D. Roots, of Patea, ■with a score of 68 (£4). In this match Rifleman Speck scored 61 (13th place), ItiHe.maiv Wickham 59- (10s Sergt-Majoij Voyle won the'Tyro aggregate, (a sSlver medal presented by Major Sandford) with a total of 65. In the Kaponga match-(won by W. K. Williams, Ohura, 68, £4), Rifleman C. Speck (Stratford) 62, Rifleman Wickham' 62, Sergt-Majpr .Vq.vle 61, 'got 10s each. The Tyros prizes weiit ifco Rifleman Stockley (Taliora), 60, A. Townley (Stratford) 57, 10s each. The Jnglewood match (possil)le 70), was won by Rifleman Hunt (Wellington) with a score of 69, £4.
