FIRES.

HOTELS AND SHOPS DESTROYED Per Press Association. Nelson, February 2. A lire at Takaka at midnight totally destroyed the Telegraph Hotel and sample room, a vacant shop, and Hawkins’ butchery. The fire originated in the hotel, which contained boarders uul staff numbering fifty, who got jut safely, A bucket brigade saved the Masonic Hall and Kirk and Company’s store, both of which were scorched. The Defence Department had ammunition stored in the sample room, some of which exploded, causing' alarm. C. Stuart, licensee of the hotel, is reported to have lost £IOO in ■ash. The town was full of visitors or the annual show, which was held yesterday.
