Hastings reports a welcome change in the weather, steady rain falling at noon, with every appearance of a complete break up of the drought. At the London wool sales there was animated competition at full late rates for all qualities. "Xew Zealand "Kaponga," IGd to, lojd; "Patiina," 16d to 15Jd. "Beer, strikes" are common in Xew South Wales as the result of a decision of the Price of Commodities Commission. Here is a typical case, which is reported from Balgownie, a mining centre about three miles from Wollongong, where the hotelkeepers decided to increase the price, of drinks, beer being quoted at 4d a pint. This increase was resented by the Balgownie miners, who, at a meeting, decided not to deal with the Balgownie Hotel whilst 4d was charged for pints of beer. The hotelkeeper refused to give in. and so all the miners from that b-rpp.ty go by coach to Wollongong, it w;:s the harvest of the Wollongong -bote! keepers and'the soft-drink shops at Balgownie.
