[To Tnw Editor SmATPonn Fobt.] Sir,— Having road your article 1 on the probable ordering of Baldwin locomotives by the .N'ew Zealand Govern- 1 meat, 1 entirely agree with your statements. It seems incomprehensible that after the British Government; generously finding money to keep tins country going at this time that such scandalous ingratitude should be the result. American locomotives of a standard pattern are somewhat cheaper than British-built locomotives, but they are certainly no better value. Mr Massey should have made this job known before tne election, when probably many of his supporters would have changed their minds. ■ At any rate, I consider that our Chamber of Commerce should wire an immediate protest to the Minister of Railways, which should be repeated by every similar Chamber and local body in New Zealand. —I am, etc., NEW ZEALANDER,
