SWIMMING CLUB.

THE ANNUAL REPORT. The following report will be !presented to members of the Swimming Club at the annual' meeting in the District High School • this evening : In placing before you the annual report and balance-sheet of the Stratford Amateur Swimming Club for the season 1913-1914, your committee is pleased to state that:the season's work proved very successful both as far as sports and finances were concerned. The season's workings opened with £7 4s sd, and closed, after having fairly heavy expenses, with a credit balance of £l3 6s 7d,

The opening carnival was held in the local baths under favorable conditions on the evening of February 17th. 1914.

All officials worked well and were strongly supported by the members, which was the means ,of making the meeting the success that it was. The attendance was a record, the gate takings amounting to £l6 Os 9d-

The lighting was supplied gratis by the Stratford Electric Supply Co. The committee's thanks are due to the Company for' the brilliant display. Big fields competed in alii the events, competitors coming from Hawera, Eltham andr Jnglewood. The -, ladies' events also brought forward big entries.

During the season local swimmers paid two visits each to Inglewood and Hawera, and gave good accounts of themselves.

The "Masters' Cup" was competed for and was secured for the season 1913-1914 by E. H. Kivell, the runner up'oeiiig Kivell.

Your committee desire to thank all donors of medals, trophies, etc. The Club membership has suffered severely by the loss of the following members, who have gone to uphold their country's honor in the presentEuropean crisis: Messrs H.L. Spratt, C.;S, Kelly, H. Dewar,, J. Petrie,. E. H. Kivell, A. L. Jones, It. Turnhull, and-R.-Wood. We wish them all a safe return. The membership has also suffered severely by the usual fluctuations.

It is to be hoped that, the remaining members will rally round and make a special effort "to keep up the membership, as this will be the means of keeping the Club in a good position in what may be a very quiet season. A Polo Club was formed, the memhers proving themselves fairly conversant with the rules of the game. Efforts will be made this coming season, to further their knowledge. The team played three games, being defeated by Hawera twice and defeating Lnglowood once.

The thanks of the Club are due to Mr W. G. Malone for the use of his office for meetings. C. C. WHITTINCTOX, Hon. Sec.
