BEEF FOR THE ALLIES.

Per Press Association, Auckland, January 2G. Having been unable to secure space in the Auckland Fanners’ Freezing Company’s works at Southdown for the killing of stock, the firm of W. and R. Fletcher, Ltd., has made an offer to purchase from anyone having space booked at the works prime ox beet at 42s per 1001 b on the hooks during the next two months. This price represents a considerable advance on present values, the current quotations for beef being 36s to 38s per 1001 b. The was explained by Mr A. Bevins, local reason for the firm’s announcement representative for Messrs Yestey Bros, of London, whose business includes trading operations conducted under the style of W. and R. Fletcher, Ltd. He stated that the firm had a standing contract to supply COO tons of beef per month for the troops of the Allies, and arrangements have been made for shipment of the meat direct from New Zealand to French ports. Mr Bevins said that sufficient stock had been purchased to meet the requirements of contracts, but during the past month the firm had not been able to obtain killing space at Southlown to supplement the productive capacity of its workjs at Whangarei, with the result that shipments during January had been only half the contract quantity. Mr Bevins explained that in order to meet the obligations of its contracts the firm had decided to offer the advanced price of 12s for any beef killed at Southdown during February and March. The slaughtering houses at Southdown works are still working to their full capacity, the Jock handled daily including 100 head of cattle, so that during two month's the output of beef from the works will be about 4000 carcases. ~
