BRITISHERS IN DAMASCUS. PRESSURE BY CRUISER SECURES THEIR RELEASE. TIUBB AND SYDNEY SUN HiEVIOM. (Received 8.0 a.m.) Loudon, January 26. News has reached Damascus' that a British cruiser is threatening railways at Alexaxidretta, the principal port of the Aleppo vilayet.
All the British residents in Damascus were imprisoned and compelled to sign a telegram to the captain of the cruiser stating that the Britishers would be shot if any Moslems were killed in the bombardment. The captain reported' he would hold Djinel Pasha personally responsible for any harm to the Britishers, who were thereupon released. ITALIAN JOURNALISTS SUPPORT INTERVENTION. Italian journalists are trying to hasten Italian intervention, suggesting that the Turks’ advance on Egypt would be a most serious menace to the British occupation.
