BIG FIRE AT THE GREY.
BOROUGH COUNCIL OFFICES INCLUDED IN THE LOSS. DAMAGE AMOUNTING TO £3OOO. ii*Bß Passe Association.! Greymouth, January 27. A lire at Brunnerton yesterday destroyed the Buck’s Head Hotel, Ximmo’s general store, the Borough Council Offices, Druids’ Lodge-room, and Armstrong’s store and baker’s premises. The latter was unoccupied, except for a small quantity of hardware which was stored there, and the fire originated in this building. All the buildings were totally destroyed, but a quantity of stock was saved. The total damage is estimated at £3OOO. Xirnmo was insured for £SOO on the stock, £l5O on the building; on the hotel, £4OO, on the building, and £2OO on the stock and furniture. There was little or no cover on the others. This is the second time within two months that the Borough Chambers and the Druids’ hall were burnt out. The origin of the fire is not known.
