BOWLING.
The greatest event of the year for Taranaki bowlers takes place this week, when the annual tournament of the Centre will be held. This year the tournament has been thrown open to outsiders, with the result that in addition to all the Taranaki Centro Clubs there will be rinks from Ponsonby, St. John's (2), Gonville' (3), and Waveiioy (3). New Plymouth and Fitzroy have entered six rinks each, Inglewood five, West End, Stratford and Haweva four each, Waitara and Pihama three each, Eltham and Opunake two each, and Manaia one,, making 48' rinks in' all. As the West End green is not in particularly good order, the Jnglewood green will be used, which will, necessitate one section (16 rinks) playing there each day. For their convenience a special carriage will be put on the 7.42 train from NeAV Plymouth each day. The bowlers will be welcomed by the president of the. Centre on Tuesday morning, and it is hoped to finish the tournament on Friday afternoon. The local clubs will entertain the visitors at a smoke concert at the Brougham Street Hall on Wednesday evening. The public are cordially invited to visit the greens during the tournament. , wHHimiiY ■mi-1 1I ""
