TARANAKI RAILWAYS.
(Eltham Argus.) Tho president of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce, Mr J. B. Richards, touched on Taranaki railways ih an address to the annual meeting on Thursday night. He says that the point of junction between the main line and Opunake is still in doubt. Well, the point of junction may be in doubt, but there is no doubt that the most strenuous efforts are being made to get the junction as far south as possible, notwithstanding the fact that in a few years New Plymouth must be the great port for Taranaki. But we have not yet heard even a whisper of the Parliamentary representatives for Taranaki and Stratford making the slightest endeavor to press the claims of the northern end of Taranaki in tho matter of the railway junction. (Hawera Star.) At a meeting of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce, Mr J. B. Richards, president, in the course of referring with regret to the fact that the Opunake line had not gone to Stratford, said that from ' the most reliable information he had been able to obtain, a "temporary" junction, would be made at Te Roti. He did not explain what the use of the word "temporary" meant. We feel inclined to assume that he felt that ultimately the practical working June. •Hon must be Hawera, but thought it as well not to he too explicit.
