HUNTLY MINES DISASTER.
FUND EXPECTED TO REACH £IO,OOO. The following letter lias been received in acknowledgment of receipt of Stratford subscriptions to the Huutly Belief Fund, forwarded at time of closing the list on Jamiaiy 9th:— „ . , To the Editor Stratford Evening Post. Dear Sir—Enclosed please hud receipt for £2-1 7s, amount collected at vour office for the Huutly Mines Disaster Relief Fund. Please convey to the donors through your columns the thanks of my committee for thensplendid response to our appeal. Considering the way people have given to other funds connected with the war, the response to our appeal is simply wonderful, and my committee appreciates it very much indeed. It may interest your readers to know- that the amount on our list now amounts to £7061 10s 9d. To this is to be added the sum of £2OOO, which the National Committee in Wellintgon has offered to hand over to ns, and there are other amounts to come in, which we hope will bring the fund up to £lO,000. We are now negotiating with the Public Trustee, whom wo have asked to take, over the fund and administer it in the interests of the beneficiaries. We are endeavouring to fix the matter so that the fund cannot be tied up as other funds have been, but that the whole amount may be used for the relief of those who suffered by the disaster.—Yours faithfully.
F. HARRIS, Hon. Sec. Huntly Mines Disaster Relief Committee.
