Sir 1. A. Coghlan has been re-ap-pointed Agent-General fo r New South Wales. The engagement is announced of ol Auckland, to Mr Elliot Rutherfurd, of Stratford. Hls Excellency the Governor and Lady Liverpool will leave Christchurch to-day to pay an official visit' to the Uest Coast of the South Island. Professor M-cMillan Brow n has been re-elected by the Univa-sitv Senate to be the I university- representative on the West Coast of the South Island.

Trooper Xeil Bowler, of Stratford, is at present in Auckland, states a' private message to relatives here. He returned by the Athenic owing to ill-health.

A isitors at the Stratford Mountain House at present include Dr. Agnes Bennett, Miss Bennett, and Miss Greenwood, of Wellington, and Mr and Mrs Scott and family, of Palmerston Xorth.

Mr IC. Hassett, who has been on platform duty at Hie local railway station for nearly two years, has been transferred to Waitotara, and leaves on Monday morning. Mr Hassett Ins been a very popular member of the Fire Brigade, and was a. prominent member of the newlyformed branch of the Hibernian Society.
