AMUSEMENTS.
HIB MAJESTY'S THEATRE. A very favorable reception was accorded the new programme screened last night. The star feature, "Goodness Gracious," has many humorous situations, and the play from start to finale is highly diverting. "A Scoundrel's Choice" is in many respects, a remarkable drama in colors by the A.K. Co., containing many thrilling episodes and a very good plot. "The Ghost of Granleigh" is a perfect Edison drama with a novel plot and a good "ghost" story. The "Gaumont War Graphic" was, as usual, full of interesting items from the front, and included Grenadiers on the march, Russian recruits, the dreaded Turcos, German cruisers, Japanese cruisers, and many scenes. "Fjords of Norway" is a delightful scenic study of snow-capped mountains and glorious lakes. Shooting crocodiles was very interesting. "Bill's Job" is an excellent comedy. Mr Will Diamond sang "That that Melody Again." This programme will be repeated to-night, and a change wilKho put on to-morrow night, featuring the "Life of General Villa." BURNS' ANNIVERSARY. There will be only one engagement ♦for local Scotsmen on Monday night, viz., the Burns anniversary function in the Town Hall. The previous efforts of the local Scottish Society to provide entertainment worthy of the occasion, have succeeded remarkably well, but the said functions have also been expensive! With a view to being able to hand over something.to the Relief Fund, the committee have decided this year not to go in for such lavish style as has marked previous efforts, and the ladies (for the first time to 1 be present) will provide the repast. That it will be good goes without saying.
The programme mapped out is very complete, and, as should he the case, the Scotch songs will predominate, and these are in the hands of local favorites. Besides, the cause for which the proceeds are to be devoted, is a patriotic one, and this element will also be a strong theme. The Egmont Club orchestra will play a few seletions at the opening of the evening, and Scotch music and dancing will be given. The toast list includes some very line speakers, and these are always enjoyable when in capable hands. Tickets are going off well, hut the committee guarantee to find room for any quantity. NEW PLYMOUTH SHOW. Exhibitors who cannot get to the New Plymouth Show themselves, but who woidd like to send exhibits of stock, are advised that the Society is prepared to meet the animals at the New Plymouth station and convey them to suitable paddocks,, a rid thence to the Show Ground. After the Show, the animals will be consigned hack to the owner. Exhibitors forwarding stock are reminded to send the necessary railway certificates, so as to get the freighfc rebate. Entries close on the 13th February, and schedules may be obtained from the Secretary, Mr A. L. Humphries, P.O. Box 19, New Plymouth.
