TERRITORIALS IN TROUBLE
AT CRIPSiWITH THE POLICE. Peb Press iAssooiatjon. Wellington, January 21. Five members of the Territorial forces and three constables partici>ated in a melee in the street last light, and four of the soldiers were charged to-day, threj ' with obstructing a constable (one with resisting), and another with inciting to •e"sist and with*assaulting a constable. A constable gave evidence that he ■eceived a complaint that two men lad been insulting a woman, and he. lisited the locality and found the men titting on thekerbing. On speaking m them, one man, who was not in justody, attacked witness with a baymet, but it was taken from him and ie was handcuffed, but while being jscoi'ted to the police station two ithers interfered, and the constable vas struck on the head and the man jot away. Two more constables then jame on the scene and the four ac*; msed were arrested.
All were convicted and handed to the liilitary authorities to he dealt with, ,nd each was ordered to pay .3s 4d ajutages to. the handcuffs and shako.
