PETER DAWSON' CONCERT? A large and enthusiastic audience attended the Town Hall to hear Peter Dawson and his concert company. Mr Dawson gained the sympathy of the audience from the minuto he appeared on the platform, and the mellowness of, voice, the dramatic intensity of expression of the singer, together with his most happy selection of songs. raised the audience to the height of enthusiasm. Mr Dawson was generous with his encores, but, nevertheless, the last song was as sweetly rendered as the first. For his first two .songs "Border Ballad" (Cowen), and "Onaway, Awake Beloved" (Cole-ridge-Taylor), ho, was recalled, and gaye as an encore "Sincerity." "The Blind Ploughman". (Clarke) , and "Sands o' Dee" were rendered with the pathos which they demand, and Mr Dawson, recalled, gave "Where the .Mountains of Morne Sweep clown, to the Sea" and the ever-green "On the Road to Mandalay"—("not the sotting you know," the. singer, said parenthetically). The singing of another favorite, "The Two Grenadiers" (Schumann), again gained a double encore, Mr Dawson singing "The Lowland Sea' 'and "Bandolero." The audience was loath to let the singer leave the stage after his rendering of "The Floral Dance," and Mr Dawson rose to- the occasion by giving three'encores: "Up from Zomerset," "The Blue Dragoons," and "A Dinder Courtship." -With Miss Anetta George he sang "Sweet and Low."
The,, other, members, of the company .greatly added to the pleasure of the entertainment.. Miss. Anetta George possesses a charming contralto voice which she displayed, tq great advantage in "Dear Heart," "Dearest, I bring you Daffodils" - (Forster) and 'fWake Tip" (Phillips), for the spirited rendering of the last being recalled. Miss Grace Newman received encores, for her masterly interpretation on the violin of "Hungarian Rhapsody" (Hauser), and "Nocturne" (Chopin).
