MAORIS AND MOTOR CARS.
CLAIM FOR HIRE. Per Press Association. Wanganui, January 19. "This is the most unsatisfactory case that has ever come before me," said Mi- W. Kerr, S.M., to-day, in respect to a case where Albert G. Mackay sued three natives for £'V2 for hire of taxi-cabs. The claim stated that the defendants had ordered taxicabs on seven different occasions to nrikr visits to Palmerston North. The chaffeur in the employ of the plaintiff stated that on one occasion .when at Palmerston North, one of the defend-
srrt.s had "shouted" him a motoring coat, paying £6 15s for it. In the course of evidence for the defence it was stated that the three defendants wore joint owners, with eleven others, in a Mock of land, and the taxi-ci-'is had heen hired in the common interest, to seek likely purchasers. , In non-suiting plaintiff, the Magistrate wind that Maoris dearly loved motor pars. There had been several similar casos of late, and he could not understand how taxi-eali owners did such preciitiouii business, as in many casos the natives were in indigent cirnimst.( ■ i.
