THE NEW CHANNELLING.

MR LUNDON CNCE MORE. [To TnK Edituii Stuah'ouh Post.] When penning mine of the Wtb. I simply expressed my ideas on a matter which affected myself as a ratepayer, and had the Mayor not attempted, in a sarcastic manner, tc turn my humble opinions to ridicule. there, so far as I am concerned, the matter would have rested; but now 1 am forced in self-defence, as Mr Kirkwood so ably puts it, to return to the charge. In the first place, I have not the pleasure of Mr Wilson's acquaintance, so can scarcely be termed his "brother-in-arms," unless indeed, this term applies to all who differ on any subject with His Worship the Mayor. As for my opinion on the matter of street channels, they were gained in the right way, by practical experience, and I think have a higher value than the head of our Council places on them, nor do I accept the statement regarding the narrow channels being two to one of the typo I mentioned. If it is so, they are rapidly being reduced in favor of the more modern flat one. His Worship further goes on to ridicule *he sweeping of channels; well, they may not be constructed for the purpose of collecting' debris, but certainly ours are doing it fairly well. As for the unsightly edges of the footpaths, bide-ja-weo, the future will show how long 'these will remain an eyesore. I am afraid if the councillors have to hang on to this bull's horns until these footpaths are all levelled, their arms will ache some. As for His Worship classing m'e ns a "croaker;" well, he (loeu't know me! I am for progress every time, but claim the right, as every ratepayer should, to criticise the actions of our councillors, and shall always do so when I think it called for, and I challenge His Worship to show me one remark wherein I have been unjust, nor do I allow that I have descended to any such thing as carping at an honest enden vor, unless, indeed, having the temerity to have an opinion opposed to that of Mr Kirkwood calls for such remarks. Thanking you in anticipation for this, which closes my correspondence on this matter. —I am. etc., F. LUNDON. Cordelia Street, 20th January, 1915.
