REPORT FROM SAMOA. Per Press Association. Wellington, January 17. Reporting to the Defence Department, Colonel Logan, commanding the garrison at Samoa, states that the general health of the troops is good, ihe following are under treatment for ailments mentioned, and all aie doing well: — Battery.—Corporal L. Auld, dengue; C. Cecil, abscess. Auckland Regiment.—Major W. Kay, appendicitis; Private T, E. Peck, fever.

Wellington Regiment.—SergeantMajor G. 13. MacMorran, jaundice; Lance-Corporal L. Guthrie, gastritis ; Privates H. Stuhbs and 0. Thompson, rheumatism; T. T. Kennedy, lumbago; H. McCormick, gastritis; C. A. K. Woodford, dengue; E. Hart, ear trouble. Medical Corps.—Private C. Raeburn, conjunctivitis; Chaplain-Cap-tain E. I. Malden, ptomaine poisoning. NEW S STEM OF RECRUITING. Christchurch, January 19. Interviewed last night regarding recruiting, the Minister of Defence (Hon. James Allen) said that so far the Department had all the men it wanted. He added : “In a few days the new system in connection with recruiting will he'in operation. Tinder this scheme those who wish to volunteer will he able to fill in particulars on cards obtainable from all post offices. They will receive notice in due course when and where to report themselves, an in the meantime will he able to follow their ordinary work.”
