FIGHTING EAST OF THORN. United Press Association. Petrograd, January It). An official report states that the enemy was expelled from Sierpie, and occupied the fords at Skrawa, forty miles oast of Thorn. They were unable to maintain the position, and have fallen back northwards under our pressure. There is nothing eventful elsewhere. GENERAL. Vienna, January 16. An official report states there is nothing doing in the Carpathians, where increasing frost is impeding operations. Rome, January 17. News telegraphed from the Austrian frontier shows that the situation daily becomes more dangerous. Food is selling at famine prices, and discontent is general. Anti-war demonstrations have occurred in all the large centres. Rioters constructed barricades in several towns, and there were conflicts with the police, who made many arrests. Petrograd, January 16. Official; Referring to Marantuarn, in addition to the destruction of the 52nd Regiment on the 13th, we pursued and defeated the foe. Upwards of 5000 were captured. Fourteen guns, enormous supplies, and 10,000 cattle were captured.
