PARTICULARS OF BRITISH ATTACK IN EAST AFRICA. OPERATIONS AT TANCA. Trail and Sydnbi Son Bbbvicm. (Received 8.0 a.m.)' London, January 15. Particulars of an unsuccessful Bi-it-ish attack on Tanga, East Africa, in November, show that the Germans received notice from a warship. Because it was an open town and supposed to he undefended they collected 3000 troops, and strongly fortified it. The density of the bush prevented the British using their guns, while they met with heavy fire from machine guns and rifles. They stubbornly contested the position, but were finally compelled to retreat.
