The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: On *Friday, Bth January, we held our usual monthly sale in our Te Wera, yards. We had a fair yarding of 260 head of cattle and 91 sheep, most of which were disposed of, under keeh competition, at full market values. There was a large attendance of the public. 15-month heifers 455, 48s to 50s, 18-month steers 67s to 71s, heifers r.w.b. 575, 3-year-old heifers in calf 00s, yearling bulls 48s, 655, 87s (3d to 90s, grown bulls £5 5s to £8 Is, springing heifers £4 2s 6d to £5 10s, store cows small 100 s to 109 s, medium 117 s, heavier £6 16s to £7 6s, ewes small 13s 6d, 2-tooth wethers small 14s Bd. On Tuesday, 12th inst., we held our first jsale after the holidays in our Stratford yards, when there was ft medium yarding of 335 head of cattle and 191 sheep, most of which were cleared at; a. slight advance' in prices. Fat and forward cows sold well at from £7 Ids to £B, good cows from £6 to £7 Bs, medium and small 90s to 117 s, cows and calves £4 16s to £6 14s, 18-month and 2-year-okl heifers £2 16s to £3 15s, 2 to 2? i -year-old empty heifers 100 s to 114 s, yearling heifers r w b. 525, small 25s to 425, springing heifers 2-year-old £4 7s 6d to £1 ]ss, springing cows £7 18s, steers were in good demand. 18-month steers realised £3 5s 6d to £3 12s, 2-year-old 90s, 28-ear-old 2s, 2* to 3-year-old £0 4s to £7 15s, buns, light £6 15s, medium £8 ss, heifers £9. Several lines of weaners were yarded, but the quality was not very good, and there was practically no demand. Most of the sheep .were passed in as 'owners' ideas Vof values were above 'those of purchasers'. : On'Wednesday, 13th inst.,. we held our usual monthly wool, hide and sheepskin sale. We had a fair catalogue 1 of 182 packages of wool and 281 hides' and sheepskins, all farmers' lines. There was a good attendance of buyers, bidding was brisk, and most of the lines realised good market values. The whole catalogue was disposed of with the exception of 15 ! packages of wool, which were held over for various reasons. Some lines were' reserved, but in most cases owners accepted the passed in bids, though, in some cases, slight advances were obtained. Generally speaking, the : wool offered was. heavy in grease, seedy and charcoal stained, 'weak and wasty as compared with wools offered at previous sales. Crossbred fleece, seedy and heavy 9d to Bjd; medium quality B}d to B|d„ fair quality 9d, lambs wool short and discolored, slightly seedy 9d, good clean lambs wool, fair staple up to 10Jd; pieces, heavy and small 4?,d to sfd, crntchings, small s£d to GJd, dead wool,6}d to Bjd. The following are some of the brands offered:—TH, 17 bales fine and coarse mixeit, little seedy, light in grease, 9d; GR und■er a bar, 21 bales fairly strong crossbred, somewhat dingy and heavy, 9d; S in circle, 8 bales coarse and fine, badly log. stained, heavy in grease; BJd; MMcM, 15 bales crossbred, weak; little broken and seedy, 9d; OD, 6 bales very badly- charcoal stained, very heavy and coarse, B}d; IT GEX, 4 bales crossbred, stained, mixed WYLAIXE, 5 . bales coarse |rid fine mixed, heavy and Stained, B|d; AE conjoined, 7 bales .crossbred light in grease,' weak, 83d; WJ *ver M, 4 bales crossbred medium quality, little heavy, Dd j'HETOKI, 3 : bales crossbred, fine light and clean, 9d; frlMcM, 4 bales crossbred lam lis .very'dingy, and seedy, 9d; FHS, 5 .bales coarse and fine mixed, little seedy, heavy, Bfd. Sheepskins (all farmers' lines) shorn pelts Is each, crossbred dead and damaged 4|d to 5d per lb, crossbred hoggets fair woollgd and fair pelts 8d to Bjjd, crosslTred hoggets mediunj wool 7d per Hi ,crossbred hoggets log stained, good pelts' 7d per lb, crossbred 2-woolled good pelts up to 9d per lb, dead skins fair wool GJd per lb, lamb skins medium woolled 6d, sajted and damp skins 6s to 7s each. Hides (all farmers' lines): Cowhides slightly dry and light lid per lb, fleshy and, light Sgd per lb, medium quality and small BJ-d per lb, yearling hides fair quality B.jd per lb, ■calfskins cut 10£d per lb, fleshy skins lid per lb, small lid per lb, dry 9id, islippy Gd per lb, tallow 18s to 20s per cwt. Since we last reported we have disposed of a fair quality of stock privately at the following prices-.—Mix-ed yearlings 475, store cows £5 12s 6d to £6 10s, cows and calves £5, bullocks £7 10s, 3-year empty heifers £4 17s Gd, 2-tooth wethers 16s, fat ewes 18s, fat lambs 15s, 2-tooth ewes 155.9 d, 4-tooth wethers 19s.
