SARY-KAMISH INVESTIGATED. [United Press Association.] Petrograd, January 13. The Sultan sent Noury Bey, Cliief of the General Staff of the 3rd Ottoman Army, to investigate the cause of the defeat at Sary-Kamish. The Cossacks captured Noury at Karaurgan. EGYPTIAN EXPEDITION NOT ABANDONED. DEMAND FOR TRAINED SOLDIERS FOR SYRIA. (Received 8.45 a.m.)
Constantinople, January 13. The report that the Egyptian Expedition has been abandoned is denied. Renter's Cairo correspondent says the Turkish officers commanding in Southern Syria do not show any de-' sire to advance southwards, and are demanding that Constantinople send more trained soldiers. News of the Turkish defeat in the Caucasus is disheartening the recruits, who are mustering at Hebron. The German officers are chiefly the impelling factor. TURKISH ADVANCE IN PERSIA. Eteuter's correspondent at Petrograd reports that the Turkish advance guard has ocupied Tabriz. c ON THE THRESHOLD OF OTTOMAN TERRITORY. 100,000 TURKS MEET RUSSIANS. (Received 9.10 a.m.) Petrograd, January 13. The Turks have assembled about 100,000, who are mainly officered by Germans, at Kavaurgan checking the Russian advance on the threshold of Ottoman territory. REPORTED MASSACRE OF ARMENIANS. PLIGHT OF THE CHRISTIANS. TURKISH DISRESPECT FOR GERMANY. RUSSIAN SUCCESSES AT KARANCAN. (Received 9.10 a.m.) Petrograd, January 13. Turks and Kurds have reached Maraga.
A massacre of Armenians between Lakes Van and Noza is reported. Many Christians at Azerbaijan and in the Alaskert Valley died of hunger and cold. Fifty thousand refugees have reached the Caucasus.
Enver Bey executed several officers at Erzeroum for expressing disrespect of Germany.
Turkish prisoners are brought to tears, and vehemently denounce the Germans for ruining Turkey. Official: Severe fighting occurred at Karangan where the Russians took 1500 prisoners, including eleven officers belonging to the 92nd Infantry, and destroyed a battalion of the 52nd, of which the remnant were taken prisoners. They captured >a hill in Turkish territory, and seized a depot of the artillery, containing shells and cartridges.
