A BURNHAM ESCAPEE.
ASSAULT AND THEFT. Per Press Association. ' Timaru, January 11. A youth named Birch, a Burnham escapee, already committed for trial on a charge of murderous assault on his employer, O’Connell, at Clandeboye, was charged before the Magistrate’s Court to-day with live cases of forgery of O’Connell’s name to cheques, and uttering them to Temuka shopkeepers, the total amount being £ls 1 Os, on the same day as the assault on O’Connell; also, the theft of various articles and money to the value of £5 10s, the property of O’Connell; also, the theft o|' a bicycle, valued at £s’7 at Mitcham on August 12th, and breaking and entering a dwelling at Mitcham on the same day, and stealing a watch and chain and £5 Jss cash. The accused had admitted the offences to the police. and was committed for trial. Home of the stolon articles and £7 2s 6d in money were found in ac. cused’s possession. The articles are to be returned to I lie owners, and the money to be divided among the losers.
