IMPORTED WHEAT.
CANADIAN SHIPMENT LANDED AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. Auckland, January 11. The first shipment of 511,000 bushels of wheat ordered from abroad by tlie Government arrived this morning by the Niagara. Mr C. A. Mathieson, an officer of the Agricultural Department, is in Auckland to arrange for the distribution of the grain. The Auckland Harbor Board was prepared, if necessary, to store the wheat for the Government free of cost, but this is not necessary, as applications have been received which will enable the grain to be delivered from the ship’s side. Arrangements are in the hands of the Wheat Distribution Committee, on behalf of which Mr Mathieson is acting. The wheat costs the Government Os 3d, but it is to be sold at 5s 9d per ■'bushel. The application forms issued by the committee state that the grain is prime Canadian milling wheat, and that it has’been imported for the purpose of bread-making. . The wheat will only he supplied to applicants who can show that stocks held are insufficient to meet requirements. In the event of larger shipments coming later on that may require to lie stored, the Harbor Hoard is prepared to aid the Government by providing shed accommodation gratis.
