RAILWAY STATION BURNEd. Peb Press 'Association. Invercargill, January 10. Tuatapere railway station was totally destroyed by lire yesterday morning. Invercargill, January 11. The bre appears 1 to have started near the letter-hope lohby } but the origin is a mystery. A considerable quantity of correspondence was lost. MIDNIGHT BLAZE IN NAPIER. Napier, January 11. A fire at midnight on Saturday gutted a shop in the centre of the city occupied by Risdale as a fancy goods store and soft drinks bar. The building was owned by lan Simson. vho purchased it only last week from the Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. The insurance on the building amounted to £250, and on the fittings to £l5O in the Union Office. Risdale had about £BOO on the stock, particulars of which are not available, the owner being away.
dIiTBREAK AMONGST DRAPERY. “S, Dunedin, January 10. V lire was discovered by Constable Dunlop in Penrose’s drapery establishment in George street at ten minutes to 7 this morning. A great deal of damage was done by fire, smoke, and water before the outbreak was finally subdued. The stock is valued at £30,000, and it is estimated that at least a third of that has been destroyed. There was no automatic alarm installation in the building. Insurance on the stock amounted to £20,000, and on the build, h'g to about £7OOO.
