A DRUNKARD’S SUICIDE. I' : Per Press Association. IS ■ , Thames, January 11. ' Charles Brown, aged fifty, who came from Hamilton and was working at Thames, committed suicide, at the hospital last night by strangling himself. sHe was admifted a week ago, suffering from delirium tremens, and was progressing well. He tore the bedclothes in his room at the sheltershed in strips and strangled himself by his own efforts. When discovered, he was practically dead, and medical assistance was unavailing. BODY FOUND IN SCRUB. Invercargill, January 11. I The body of an old man was found ;in the scrub at Spriughills. The re. | mains are supposed to be those of 'William Akers, an old-age pensioner, who has been missing for some time.

Mr T., Become | then attempted a rescue, hut was •soon ill difficulties, and was rescued |hy R.. Smith. It took about an hour |to bring Broome round. In the the girl Chapman disappeared. The. body has not yet been recovered. The police are searching the heaph.
