CRICKET. OTAGO v. WELLINGTON. Pee Press Association. Wellington, January 4. The cricket match. Otago v. Wellington was concluded to-day in bright sunshine, and before a fair attendance. Up to the time of drawing stumps on Saturday the local representatives had scored 498 in their first innings. Otago iiad made 139 in the first innings and, following on, had secured 41 for the less of three wickets in the second innings. The match was drawn. At the close of the game, Crawford •vita 178, and Eckhold with 60, were at the wickets. Bruges scored 67 in Otago's second innings, but lifted a nil from Gibbes, which Midlane held. WELLINGTON. PLUNKET SHIELD. The match for the above Shield between Auckland and Canterbury was continued at Auckland on Saturday, in tine weather. The Auckland team commenced the second innings well, but A. W. Thomas’ bowling soon steadied play. E. Horspool alone did uel ! out of the first seven batsmen, and ills patient innings did a good deal to take the sting out of the bowling. At the fall of the seventh wicket the score was 119. Brook-Smith and Cummings then became associated, and they raised the score to 249 for the eighth wicket, the former accounting for 00 of the runs. Cummings carried his score to 73 before he was caught in the outfield. Auckland’s innings closed for 286, Canterbury thus’ requiring 291 to win. great bowling (8 wickets for 99) reecived great applause. AUCKLAND.
