A Pacific Cable report states that in order to initiate a regular service with-Fanning Island, the Board has placed a contract in Auckland for a suitable steamer costing £9OOO.
TRADE WITH JAPAN. (Received' 9.30 a.m.) Sydney, January 5. The secretary of the Japanese Bureau of Commerce, apeompanied by several trade commissioners, has arrived with a view to promoting trade with Japan. FEDERAL REVENUE FOR 1914. Melbourne, January 5. The Federal Customs revenue for the half year increased by £124,478, and the postal revenue £70,503, compared to the previous December half year. QUEENSLAND FINANCE. ■ > Brisbane, January 5. The State revenue for the half-year ended December was £3,361,867, being an increase of £36,576.
